  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

How to administer eye drops/cream?

Right so Barney has a very mild case of snuffles with runny eyes as his main symptom, he has had Baytril for 15 days and it has cleared up but his eyes are still running a little so the vet said some cream should clear up th last bit.

Problem is he explained to use it for 3 days but I didnt ask HOW to use it. Maybe I'm being simple here but I want to get it right. It is called 'Fucithalmic Vet' if that makes a difference. Can anyone advise me on this?

Hiya ,when my bun had this i just carefully lifted her eyelid up slightly and squeeze a small blob under then it sort of dissolves on the eyeball ,hope she is better soon x

If you can squeeze a short line just on the lower eyelid as it touches the eye ball the blinking will do the rest as it melts.

when our vet gave us the fucithalmic stuff, she said to us to use cotton buds, squeeze a little bit of it onto the bud and then very gently rub it onto the eye.

I had the same drops and the instructions say to put under the upper lid or you can use the lower lid for rabbits if easier.

Our vet showed us how to pull the lower lid out and let a drop fall in. It quickly changes to a liquid and spreads.

She said the most important thing was not to touch the eye itself otherwise you could easily damage it.

Good luck.

Thanks guys, finally got up the courage to do the first dose, and bless him he just stayed still and let me, good as anything, then went back to sleep.
