  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Metacam feeding

Blossom wont take it by syringe, she gets mega stressed. A spark as gone in my mind and perhaps syringing it into her fav current food? E.g put it into a red grape and feed her that way. I know she doesn't mind the taste of it, but she doesn't like the syringe neer her mouth. Would putting it into a red grape work? I'v guessing I'd need to cut a little bit out of the grape to keep the metacam inside?

Have you tried wrapping her firmly in a towel with just her head out before syringing the metacam? Once in the towel, kneel on the floor with her gently between your knees and place syringe in the side of her mouth. Dont think the grape idea will work!

My vet told me to mix it with equal amounts blackcurrent, which I do, and Jeremy will lick that straight off a spoon. If he doesn't want to do that I just sprinkle it on his pellets and he doesn't seem to notice when its mixed with the blackcurrent. The onlu thing is you need to leave it a few minutes to soak in and make sure it hasn't just dripped through to the bottom.

just tried it today and it worked a treat! Just need to make sure I don't put a hole through the other end this time ;) Shes eaten a lot more food today, mainly pellets and herbs, not really hay but I'm sure she'll get back on to that eventually.

Parsnip's on daily metacam. I simply drizzle a line of it along a SS pellet and he wolfs it down .
