  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

EC and eye damage

Anyone know how this shows up?

My foster bun, Timmy, has something wrong with both his eyes, and marks showed up on both corneas, near the bottom, when the vet put dye in them. She tried to rinse the dye out, to see if it was old scar tissue, but the dye stayed in both.

There is now a very slight clouding in both eyes, again at the bottom where the marks showed up.

The vet thought originally it was a corneal ulcer, but said it was unlikely to be in both eyes at the same place. Timmy has been on drops anyway, and Meloxidyl as he spends a lot of his time with his eyes half closed or closed.

Does it sound like something that could be EC related? Or does anyone have any other thoughts?

He is back at the vet on Friday.

Thanks for that Jane .

Not sure if it describes him. He doesn't have any inflammation, or discharge, and both his eyes are the same, in the same area.

It's hard to see them, but his upper lids are a slightly different shape.

If you look closely, you can see that there is something wrong with his eyes. The bit where the mark is looks drier than the rest of his eye, which looks fine.

Not sure how well he can see either. His pupils react to light, but the vet gave me some tasks to do to test him, but he moves so slowly in a new area that I can't tell.
