Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Maloccluded Incisors

New Kit
Hi, I have a problem with one of my rabbits called Lucy.

Basically, I found yesterday that her incisors were overgrown, I was totally shocked. I regularly check the rabbits and guinea pigs over, Lucy was only at the vets last month for her vaccinations and she was perfectly okay then. I can't believe what her teeth look like and can't figure out what's happened.

Lucy's still eating all her pellets, her hay and her greens. She's just as active as normal, runs about, binkies, investigates. No drooling, no loss of appetite. I can't figure out how it's happened. I'm experienced trimming guinea pigs' teeth so I clipped Lucy's in the same way with the bone rongeurs I have. I'm still not 100% happy with what her teeth look like and they came to look like this. Can anyone offer any advice, any suggestions how her teeth have overgrown?

Thanks.

My advice would be to get a Vet check what damage has been done to the teeth. I think you also need to confess to the Vet that you are clipping the teeth yourself based on your guinea pigs knowledge and hopefully they can point you in the right direction after that.

When Squidgy first came to us (nearly 10 years ago), the vet clipped his teeth.
We only did this a couple of times, and then we had them removed.
I wish I'd found this forum then to ask about it!
Squidgy did fine without his incisors, we just cut his veg into strips for him.
