Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Worming. Any thoughts.

I am still undecided about worming and don't plan to give another 9 day course of Panacur until I have made my mind up. I can see the point of view of the immunity to Fenbendazole if used too frequently and this concerns me which is why I have been putting it off for months as I don't want to rule out the only effective treatment for EC.

However, does anyone have any info either way about if regular worming (the 9 day course not the 28 day EC treatment course) is effective at preventing EC? Is there any info out there about the likelihood of rabbits getting worms? My rabbits are outside buns but I try to keep their area as clean as possible but I am still worried.

Jane?

I don't have any links but rabbits don't tend to suffer from intestinal worms (well I've never had a problem) and the 9 day course will do nothing for EC anyway as the life cycle of the parasite is 21 days (which is why you bleach everything on day 21 & 28).

Thanks . I kinda figured that you couldn't prevent EC just treat when symptoms are present but I like to have papers to read and the benefit of professionals and experienced owners before making up my mind fully.

Any more evidence either way is still welcome, I'll read it all.
