Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Cataracts

Rabbers

Mama Doe
Hi everyone,

Just want some advice about my 8.5 year old doe Rolo. She has had EC in the past, with urinary incontinence, paralysis etc and we successfully treated it. She has been apparently healthy for a good few years now. recently she has started to get cataracts and because of her age I wasn't too concerned. Should I get it checked out? Could it be a simple case of cataracts or could it hint at something more sinister.

Thanks,

caroline

I was about to start a post with a similar question - Lottie who we rescued when she was 4? about 4 years ago gained a cataract in one eye which is completly white and now about 6 months later the second eye is turning milky.

I am worried that she will struggle with both eyes affected and wanted to know if anyone else had house bunnies with cataracts and how they have coped?

I've not gone to the vets (yet) as she is ok in all other aspects and we just have to ensure the crate door is open wide so she doesn't walk into it !!:oops: I assume there is no treatment for cataracts?

I've got two cataract bunnies here now. One is 8 1/2 and the other is our old Arnold Monkfish who has got completely white coverage now with no vision. Both have been Panacured and I'm not convinced that it isn't just age related. Both don't seem to give a monkeys. Monkfish still manages to get up and down to both floors of his wendy no trouble and I caught him mounting his missus earlier on today on the top floor.

I am not concerned about either rabbit and their general health. Any other symptoms and I'd just Panacur again to be honest.
