Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

laboured breathing and irregular heartbeat

hi all

After having my dear bunny Teddy put to sleep yesterday i can't believe i have another poorly bunny:(

Sam hasn't been his usual self today and took him to the vet for a check. She said his breathing is laboured and has an irregular heartbeat. He has also had a wet nose for the past week or so. She said that is could be infection causing the symptoms but she seemed very concerned. She thinks it could be heart disease. He has had baytril and metacam and i'm taking him back tomorrow. We discussed possibly giving him a chest x-ray but want him to feel better before that would be considered due to the anisthetic.

Since i've brought him home he does seem happier as at the vet he looked so miserable. He is eating but isn't the usual greedy bun! my poor Sam I can't bear to have another seriously ill bunny:(

any advice?

I'm sorry, man what a time for this to happen. Health problems with my buns have made me want to pull my hair out. I can't really offer advice but healing vibes out to Mr. Sam...

hope the baytril clears up what ever it is. i have every thing crossed its not something more serious xxx

Pearl had Xrays but was sedated instead of knocked out, maybe your vet would consider that instead to get a quicker diagnosis
