Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Mites!!

My little chap 'George' dwarf lop to my horror has mites. He has reactived to Xeno spot on treatment so my vet is treating him with vacinations but the mites are not going  Vet has told me ALL rabbits have these micro mites but they only flare up on some but ive also been told by bun could have caught them from the hay (meadow). Can anyone enlighten me further?

How many vaccinations has he had?

They can take a few weeks to completely die off. No need to freak out about it, people do say that all Rabbits have them and they can flare up at times of feeling low or illness.
I think that the mites on hay are a different type of mite, i dont think that they would live on your buns fur.

Have you been treating any area where the bun goes? When my two had mites i had to chuck out all the hay, hoover all the carpets and spray with johnsons mite spray, takes 30mins before you can put buns back in the area, but needs to be done as eggs can fall on the floor then hatch and get back on bunny.

Aww poor George! Sorry he reacted to the xeno but the injections should sort him out. One of mine is being treated now for mites and yet the others are fine. You would think if one has them they all would, but Cheeky has always been the bun with problems requiring treatment, pasturella when young and dentals a bit later, so maybe they flare up in buns with a lower resistance.
I do hoover their area every day and have changed all their hay and washed the bedding on a high temp as well.
Hope he's better soon
