After neuter treatment?

I'm really sorry if this has come up already, i did a quick search but couldn't find anything useful so thought I would ask.

Should rabbits be given pain relief after a neuter? Oscar had his today but only got some Science Selective Recovery food to syringe feed him, no pain relief of any kind. He's been eating a bit of parsley, broccoli and and dried herbs, a tiny bit of hay (maybe one or two strands?) and a bit of water. Also had a few of very small hard poos so far...

Any advice welcome

Pain relief is usually given by injection after the neuter and this should cover him for 24 hours. If he is very uncomfortable tomorrow or if his bits are very bruised and swollen I would request a couple more days supply of analgesia.

The fact that he is nibbling food and passed some poo is great news. He should be back on top form in a couple of days :)

Ok :) I was just a bit worried because a couple of people mentioned pain relief and I was worried that he didn't have any... Thank you

Yeah they normally give the buns an injection of long lasting pain killer, metroclopimide (?) to get their stomachs moving and antibiotics to protect against infection. At least thats what all the ones I've had neutered have been given (10 buns I've had done now if you count the rescue ones )

Good that Oscar has had some noms and done a few poos. Sounds like he is doing well, but I would phone the vet in the morning if you are at all concerned about him. Keeping up recovery vibes for him.

I had two rabbits neutered on Monday and they're having their last painkiller tomorrow - Metacam. Don't know whether they really need it but it's what our vets do.

Hmmm, I'm wondering whether to go and get him more pain relief. He's still eating a bit (though not his usual eat anything in sight) but he's not moving a lot- more just huddled in a corner... :(

It sounds as if he is uncomfortable.:( I would definitely ring the vet. What are his poos like?

How does he look underneath? Is it swollen or red at all?

Our vets normally only give a 24 hour injection routinely after the op which is usually Ok, but if you are worried I would ring them. Does you vet do a 3 day post op check?

No, he's not swollen or red really, just a bald patch and a bit pink. Just got back and he seems fine now- much more awake, inquisitive and alert, and eating a big pile of hay!

He has a 3 day and 10 day post op check yes.

Sorry about slow reply, lots of compulsory classes and labs  Thank you for all advice and good wishes
