  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

update on eric 27 feb

Wise Old Thumper
last night, eric nibbled some oat hay and a few bits of pellets i'd broken up:)

he's been pretty quiet overnight but meatloafed and asleep rather than painful flops.

this morning he's still quiet and shown no interest in breakfast yet - scared to come out i think - but i've managed to get 10ml of critical care into him, most of his 0.5ml of zantac and a small dose of metacam.

so, any advice on the next step? watch and wait? last night and very ear;y this morning we've had a few tiny poops and at least one wee.

my vet is only open 11-12 today and said if i was very concerned, i could take him over and they would give him some cc. well, i've done that so i know there's something in his belly.

should i have some patience and keep him calm by having a more 'normal' day?

Yes, I think you both need rest and peace for a few hours.

Is he drinking ok?

I know Blackie used to like lukewarm water rather than cold when his mouth was sore - whenever I put fresh warm water in he would go and have a lovely big drink.

Yeh I think a day of 'normality' will do him (and you!) the world of good :D
Rest and recouperation for both of you

Well, he's still meatloafed.poor bun probably exhausted.

He's not had drink but 10ml of cc has some in.

Think I'll sleep a while and try syringe some in later.

Aw bless him. Sending him loads more vibes and hoping he'll be ok xx

And hugs for you - you sound so stressed. xx

i'm shattered - and i've come down with a stinking cold.

i think its because there's nothing 'obvious' to the vet, i just know he wasn't right and as the days have gone on, its become clearer - just not the reason behind it.

typing a reply from my phone often comes out wrong as its one of those stupid touch screen things.

thank you xxx

well, we had some slight improvement last night so i actually went to bed!! he seemed more eric-y as he had a nibble then came any lay at my feet in his usual evening spot.

he seemed great this morning - rushed over to his dish when i put some leaf mix in it but he only had a bit. then he BINKIED!!!! did his mad laps, off and on the sofa etc:love: ate a few of his veg, a few small poops and now he's asleep (i gave him his metacam about half hour ago).

still not right but i'm happy with his progress so far - i just think i'm expecting poops too quickly:oops: not sure how long food takes to go through and eventually come out as waste poops:? any ideas?

x
