  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Next phase for Wish UD, post 18

Wise Old Thumper
After Judy's excellent suggestion of more pain meds, and a combo of Gray's and PL's conversation that I watched and then stole the info from, Wish has been doing rather well.

Er. a bit too well. She's a bit un-Wish like right now.

 Wish got Fat!

:thumb: Which is actually pretty awesome.

Shes now been on a huge dose of Metacam (8 drops in the morning, 8 in the evening) for nearly 3 weeks (3 weeks tomorrow), and on the Pro-Fibre pellets for a week prior to that.

Obviously Wish should only stay on that high dose if she actually needs it, and ideally, we need to get her on the minimal dose possible, that still keeps her in the good shape she is now. So that's what we start now- a slow reduction to try and see what the minimal dose is, that Wish needs.

My plan is this; Weigh her on a Saturday (to see the outcome of the week) and reduce by one drop, once a week (on a Sunday). So this coming week would be 7 drops morning, 8 drops evening. The next week (providing Wish maintains good condition) would be 7 drops morning, 7 drops evening, etc.

So, guess my girlie needs some good wishes please. Currently she has 'no-where to go' if things get bad, but if I can find the minimal dose that works for her, then maybe we do have 'somewhere to go' and she is also not having needless medicines into her fragile body.

Thanks Cazza :)

I last weighed both Flame and Wish on the 21st Jan.

Wish weighed 1.3kg

Flame weighed 1.3kg

So now, just over a month on, they now weigh a little different.

Wish weighs 1.55kg

Flame weighs 1.6kg

Flame is irrelevant to the thread but I've put him here anyway because his weight gain is solely thanks to the pro-fibre pellets.

This is Wish nomming one of the goodies Gray sent. I love how at the end, when she has finished, she turns back to me for more. It's not the best angle, but she was comfortable and safe and her back feetsies were on the foor.

Oh hun! Wonderful news! Wish - you gorgeous little bundle of fluff! Noserubs to da bunnies! xxx:love::love::love:

Phase one complete. Onto phase two.

This morning both Flame and wish have lost a bit of weight compared to last week, but I suspect, because its both of them, that its related to me trying to cut down the profibre pellets and also running out yesterday.

Wish weighs 1.5kg and Flame 1.7kg.

Today wish gets 7 drops in the morning and 7 in the evening.
