  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Poisonous plants - Ficus

Pie

Warren Veteran
Ok we have one of these growing behind my tv and xbox, on a raised platform that Pie doesn't go on.
I heard her munching something had a look and it was a (very) dried up Ficus leaf! She was going through the second one before I managed to pull it out of her mouth.
I know they are poisonous to rabbits but she didnt have a leaf fresh off the tree, it was a dried up, dead one. Shall I keep an eye on her and see how she is or is there reason to be concerned?

This happend almost 10mins ago and she is still eating hay and is fine.

Can you phone a vet and ask? I don't really know much about posionous plants but I'm hoping that such a small amount wouldn't cause too much prob but think I'd ask my vet incase there is something they can give her as a precaution.

When we first had Lola she munched some peace lily leaves, I phoned the vet and he said get some liquid paraffin and syringe it to flush her out! we got the liquid paraffin and tried to syringe feed her but it was a nightmare as it was just squirting all over her, she was fine. - I would phone the vet for advice we no longer have ANY houseplants after that little episode!

Ok thanks guys. Will call the vets, Pie seems fine but its better to be safe than sorry.
