Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

I have just been out to see my outdoor buns and noticed a flea on Poppy. I de-fleaed them a few months ago with Advantage, I know you should do it monthly but with 6 buns and the price of advantage its a no go!!

Do you regularly de-flea your outdoor buns? If so with what and how much does it cost?

No idea where they get them from. We do have wild bunnies in the field accross from our house...

Did you treat the bed when you treated the buns?? Could the fleas be in the bedding you buy??

No I didn't but all 6 are on the same hay from the bale (thats all the bedding they get) and none of the others have them

Do you have neighbour with cats? Mine used to get them quite often from cats in the garden. I only treated as and when needed.

Hadn't even thought about fleas, bn worrying about messy buns and flies

My cat and dog like visiting the buns, so fleas highly likely in my case.

Last winter my dog had them for about 2 months!! My fault - I was feeding a visiting hedgehog, never managed to catch it to de-flea it. Dopey dog ran straights up to it and stuck his nose into the spines every time he saw it. Had to de-flea him about 3 times!!!

(hehehehehe multiple rabbit syndrome :D )

Never had a pet with fleas in about 15 years :D and that was a dog when we lived in the city.

I don't think I would ever do the bunnies unless they actually got them.
