  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My rabbit is lying on his side?

grams

New Kit
My rabbit is lying on his side in his cage, he has just started today, he is about 9 weeks old. whenever i stroke him he gets up and is fine, but he lies down on the plastic raised platform of my indoor cage, what do i do???

Rabbits can lie down in they are comfortable, however, this is not that (if this is abnormal behaviour, if h is showing other signs of a problem, like less or no eating, drinking, pooing, weeing), then he needs a vet, like now.

if he's eating, and pooping and peeing like usual, he's probably just found his favourite spot to chill out, if he isnt doing all the above i'd see a vet

Is he eating normally? Pooing and weeing?

yes he is a very healthy happy bunny, and i was just feeding him timothy hay from my hand, but i think maybe he is not weeing as much as last time i cleaned him out,but is he just resting?

ok thank you very much, he is doing all of the above, and he is very happy at the moment

If you can film videos anyway, could you film him lying and then call him and give him some food? That might show us a bit more of what's going on.

It sounds likehe is just resting. A rabbit lying down stretched out who isnt eating weeing pooing normally is not good and is probably a sign of tummy problems. In which case he would need to see the vet asap

maybe he is just resting.. my sam is doing the same too.. specially when he is in front of the fan. he would just let his self fall in the floor and make his self comfortable :D
