Rabbit course and new books

As I am now a qualified veterinary nurse I can concentrate on rabbit medicine/nursing. I am quite excited as I am booked on an advanced rabbit nursing course in a couple weeks. It is just a day course but will be full of information. I have just bought 2 rabbit nursing books. One is rabbit nursing for veterinary nurses and the other is rabbit medicine and surgery which is like a revision guide. It is full of pictures and cases and asks questions regarding the cases so makes you think, then gives detailed answers. I am quite excited for them to arrive.
Whilst looking for rabbit books I came across a book called, A nurse, Two rabbits and a world tour. Sounds like a good feel book which I am also looking forward to reading.
Just had to share. I really hope in the future I can do alot of rabbit nursing.

That is so exciting! Would any of the books be of use to owners as a reference do you think?

I am not sure. Probably not as they are for vet nurses and involve alot of info about how to deal with sitiuations at work but if you are really interested in these things there is nothing stopping you buying them and having a read. There are many other books that might be useful for owners. There was a book I saw about rabbit diseases which could be interesting for owners.

Good stuff! I don't think the role of VNs can be overestimated: if animals are hospitalised, it's likely to be the VNs, not the vets, who are the first to notice that something isn't right on the ward - so I'm full of respect for you guys and it's really great that you want to do some additional learning on bunny care, as we all know what sensitive little souls they are :) Good luck, hope the course is enjoyable and informative :)

I've been thinking about doing vet nursing a lot recently, with the sole intention of nursing bunnies :) I would absolutely love to spend my days doing that. Unfortunately I am now 32 and having looked into it, the wages aren't enough for what I need :( I actually almost did vet nursing when I left school, got a place on an animal care course and everything, just changed my mind at the last minute cos I didn't like cats! :? But good luck to you, I'm very envious!!:mrgreen::mrgreen::rabbit2:

I have a book on veterinary nursing for rabbits, which has some nasty pics. Sadly it is wrong in several areas. For instance that penicillin is bad for rabbits:roll: ~Penicillin is a life saver, it is much better option for facial abcesses than surgery that has nearly no chance of working.

I was not impressed.

Wow, let me know how it goes!!
That is exactely what I am hoping to do (when I can afford to go back to education )

The books weren't that expensive. about £25 and £30 which is fairly reasonable for these books. I don't know what to expect of them but they will surely add to my knowledge. The course i am going on covers facial abscesses, gut stasis, dental problems, fluid therapy etc etc so i will learn extras on this.
And yes, it is nurses who look after the patients when they are hospitalised so I would like to specialise in this field.
