Any spare vibes for Chaz please

Please can we have some magic RU vibes for my beautiful boy. He has lost loads of weight despite being fed extra, he has now developed an ulcer on his eye and has discharge from his nose. His man bits look sore too and he seems so frail. The vet doesn't seem to know what is wrong with him so we are treating to try and cover all angles. He is a really inbred petshop bun who's family were all dead within the first 12 months. My boy has made it to nearly 4. All ideas or suggestions also welcome. Thanks.

mmm could the sore man bits and other symptoms be myxi?:(

my old fella bertie spent over a year fighting an eye ulcer...its left him with a lot of scarring on his eye tho.

he had eye ointment after ointment and drops after drops.....he also had blood serum therapy....saw the specialist vet john chitty.......eventually it stopped being active....but like i said left him with scarring.

i hope your fella gets the treatment he needs xx

Tons of vibes from me! xx

I am a 'learner' myself when it comes to rabbits having only had them for a year - but have his teeth been checked? It's the first thing that came to mind.

Thanks, I don't think myxi as it has been flaring up on and off for a while but never this bad. He is also vaccinated so I would hope not but I will go and read up and check there is nothing else to suggest it. I think Chaz may well be left with scarring too if we are lucky enough to get him through this. What drops was the lovely bertie on?

Thanks, teeth have been checked several times and deemed to be ok although I have heard some people say that spurs right at the back may not be seen with a concious check up. Thanks I will mention that when we go again but I doubt he is strong enough to take an anaesthetic at the moment xx

Thanks Jane, I did ask the vet about this today and he thinks not but I have insisted he be treated for it anyway. He gave him the first antibiotic injection today and I paid for the full course. The vet however said to me we would sort out a credit for my account if he didn't make it to next week, which didn't fill me with great hope

Where there's life there is hope !! Let's wait and see if the abx helps.

What other meds is he on ?

He is having Depocillin, Lapizole, Tiacil and a little bit of metacam just in case he is in any pain.

Has he had Fucithalmic at all ? I have found that to be more effective when treating a corneal ulcer.

Also, it might help to give him some Fibreplex. Not only is this useful to try to support healthy gut flora whilst antibiotics are being given but I have also found that it appears to help a poorly Bun metabolise nutrients from their food. It was certainly very helpful to Morse when he was very poorly and just skin and bone.

No he hasn't had Fucithalmic yet, these drops are the first we have tried. The vet said to keep a close check on it and if there was any change other than improvement bring him back straight away. This morning the inflammation is much reduced and the eye looks normal again apart from the ulcer. He seems bright in himself although a little wobbly but tucking into his food with gusto this morning. Fibreplex on order, thank you Jane, you really are a great help :thumb:

Thanks everyone for your vibes, he's still here so they must be working xxx
