Horsford Rabbits update 16th February.
The rabbits continue to improve and are recovering so well from their ordeal that we have now been able to start their neutering programme and will soon be looking for forever homes for them.
Without the kind support of so many people we could not have coped with the extra work and expense of this mammoth rescue. We would especially like to say a big thanks to the following: -
Pets At Home Support Adoption for Animals for a grant of £2000 towards neutering costs,
Wood Green Animal Shelter for loaning cages and vets and staff for two days to help with vaccinations, neutering and health checks,
Kettle Foods for the purchase of 4 double hutches and Alfrescos (Pet Pads) who generously supplied extra housing,
Lildebs (Bella, Oscar and Dolly) for hand baked biscuits and water bottles,
Rabbit Welfare UK and Rabbit United Forum and UK Companion Rabbits for alerting so many people to our need for help, and especially Ros, Lorraine and Jo for fundraising and photography,
The Willow Warren for 8 large boxes of hay and willow sticks,
Vetark Professional,
Dengie feeds for vouchers,
Supreme Petfoods for feed, bedding, cleaning fluid and recovery formula,
Friendship Estates Ltd for feed,
Burgess Excel for feed,
Amy, Jodie, and Laura who travelled all the way from Derbyshire and Staffordshire to bring lots of gifts for the bunnies and gave us a days work cleaning and feeding.
James and Liam Simmonds two young boys who gave up their Christmas money to buy water bottles,
The media – Anglia Television, Eastern Evening News, EDP, Radio Norwich , Wayland Radio and Radio Norfolk, especially Wally Webb. Country Pet and Equine publication who publicised the rabbits plight,
A really huge thank you to the SWAP team for contacting by e mail so many people, without which most of the people who have helped would not have been aware of our need.
Plus all those wonderful people, too many to mention but you know who you are, who have sent donations and offers of help and homes. As soon as the rabbits are neutered and bonded into pairs we will be contacting all the people who are offering homes and arranging their home checks and delivery of their new friends.
Our final thanks has to be to the staff and volunteers who worked tirelessly to accommodate and care for all the rabbits. Many members of staff came in on their days off and worked later at night to get the job done.
This has been such a hectic time looking after the rabbits and responding to all the enquiries and wonderful offers of help, please forgive us if we have missed anyone we should be thanking.

Remember we can all still help raise more cash for PACT by taking part in the Name the bunny fundraiser, link in my siggie.

Cheers

Jo

Good to hear that the bunnies are recovering well from their ordeal. What a marvelous team effort to rescue them! :thumb:

Thats so good to hear that the bunnies are being so well cared for and PACT supported. Its so nice to hear happy news for these special bunnies x

:thumb: they are definitely worth the hard work!!
The guys that work with them are brilliant and it is great to think how much better these bunnies lives are now, even though it isn't perfect!! I can't wait to start seeing them go to new homes (even though it won't be for a while yet!!) We need to get more of the other bunnies rehomed as well!!

Keep the word going and thanks for the post and everyone who has helped so far :D

Remember the horsford bunnies? Here is an update

Hi folks,

Just got back from PACT's open day. Do you all remember the situation with the Horsford bunnies 2years ago? PACT took in over 100 rews from a man who was breeding them in terrible conditions and, upon his hospitalisation, the situation became known to the sanctuary who then intervened. With a massive amount of support, not least from people on here, all the rabbits were removed to the sanctuary.

I am happy to say That many of the bunnies have since found homes :D. Sadly some did not make it, due to various health issues.

However, PACT still have many from this rescue who are in need of homes. Unfortunately, since the public knowledge of this rescue has died down, these REW bunnies that are left are proving to be very difficult to rehome. Usual story, nobody wants a REW.

They are, however, in much better accommodation now than when they first arrived. There are still a few rabbits who are in double hutches, without attached runs, but the longer termers are all being kept in spacious kennel type set ups. :thumb:

So if anyone here is keen to rehome a REW, please get in touch with PACT. I'm told that they also have a pair of continental giants coming in.

I remember this very vividly.
Great how all bunny lovers ,many on this forum rallied round.
I made a donation and get their magazine sent through and support their
fund raising draws.
It was a an awful situation.
The government really needs to act on behalf of Rabbit welfare.
This forum is a real leader for change and I really think one day
we will achieve the aim to give bunnies a better deal in life.
Where would we be without rescues and volunteers and people contributing.
if we all keep working hard we will get there.:love:
