My vets and Alisons without question, I'll also take advice from people on here I respect, not going to name anyone though ;)

Now I have seen the poll I'd add I mean my vet not just any vet the reason I said Alison is not only is she experienced and v knowledgable but she knows me and my rabbits and I trust her to give me completely honest unbiased advice :)

For me it's the vet who I know is knowledgeable and cares about rabbits (there are some at our practice who I would avoid!), and a few people on here who are knowledgeable and experienced and who are kind enough to be generous with their knowledge and share it with other members  (not always getting thanked for it!)

i chose experiance as even with human docs/nurses you can get bad ones........
i think experiance and knolage come at the top of my list's.....:)

it was Lucia the vet i had in brum  she was so bunny good, spotted Pearls enlarged heart before she even saw the scan picture and always talked fondly of the rabbits she used to care for in her old practice. totally dedicated too, she even phoned me at 8pm one night with Alvins results and then again late one evening to get info about rescues for another client. i miss her loads and trusted her judgement 11111110%

2nd to Lucia is Louise at Hopper Haven (doorkeeper) she has sooooooooooo much bunny experience and is always there to calm my tears

then theres our very own Jane, never met or spoke on the phone but she is the person on this forum i would seek out for bunny advice without a doubt :D

not really had chance to weigh up my new vet, but first impressions were a big thumbs up :D

at our vet practice, its being run on locums at the moment so you never see the same face twice so at the moment i would say not vets. i went with someone with the most knowledge but it would be a cross between that and experience as to me they both go hand in hand x

Cripes woman give me a chance to do the poll!:lol::lol::lol::lol:

 Sorry! I didn't kow if I was being stupid or something.

My answer is that I read a lot and take on board a lot of info, from a wide variety of sources and then make my choices from that.

I don't necessarily trust one more than the other, but I have to trust myself and my gut instinct to make what I feel is the best choice, but with a wide variety of knowledge that I have gained from a variety of sources.

Nice to hear there are so many competant vets - we seem to get a bit of a bashing on here generally!

But the poll does say "on RU" i.e. outside of seeking direct vet advice. I agree that your own experienced vet SHOULD be the first and primary source, I am just curious about how people interpret advice on RU - if you start a thread on a particular issue and people who post don't agree, how do you decide who to listen to?

The ones I trust most are the vets I know to be good (not all vets just because they are qualified), two most at the specialist practice and 3 or 4 at my local vets.

About a dozen people on here I trust the advice of totally (could well be more than a dozen and I wouldn't want to start naming everyone as I'd be bound to miss someone very important out). That would also depend on what I was seeking advice on be it medical, behavioural etc. I'm in the lucky position of also getting advice on issues such as bonding from my vet and I know she knows what she's talking about.

Past experience mainly, you get to pick up on who really knows their stuff.

I voted "other" for rabbit advice, as I think the guys who work and live with them are the most reliable source, backed up by a vet of course.

As Donna said, Lou at Hopper Haven lives and breathes rabbits and she probably understands and knows more about rabbit health than most vets.

I always run any problems with my rabbits by Lou before I consult the vet, as she often gives me a rounded picture of the possible options, so I'm fully armed when I go to the vet.

Sadly, I had a very incompetent vet in the past and so have lost a lot of trust for vets. Now, I have a much better vet who has had to really work for my trust, but equally, he is willing to learn and research himself, and often the forum can provide a good founding for him to research from (such as if I suggest X).

As for what info I take on board from here, it depends who is giving it, what knowledge they have, what knowledge I have, how they express it, how they handle any questions asked, how much info is given, etc.

Hmmm in that case I think I would want advice from someone who has experienced the thing I am wanting advice from. But would still trust my vet over a forum member in most cases

I picked 'those who's advice makes most sense to me'. I thought about it for quite some time... but at the end of the day, if the advice doesn't make sense to me, I can't use it.:lol:
