Rabbit vet Stockport/Tameside area

I hope I'm posting this in the right place!

Could anyone recommend a good bunny vet in this area Please.

I have a good vet near to me where I used to take my last bunny and still use for my dogs, but after reading a lot of posts on here I don't think it's particularly rabbit savvy.....
....for example, there was no question of burring his teeth, they were quickly clipped :?

I've tried looking on the web but can't find anyone nearer than Harrogate!!!!!
abd I don't want to get another rabbit until I have everyting in place.

Thank you.

I dont know of any but might be worth pm;ing Elaine on here she runs Tameside rabbit rescue or possibly Lottielouise as she used to live aruond there :D

Hi,
Aidan Rafferty at Ashleigh Vets in Whalley Range was recommended to me some time ago. I have never consulted him so cannot vouch for him personally. He is certainly nearer to you than Harrogate though!

I use Ashdale in Glossop. They are lovely. I wouldn't say they are rabbit experts (Asleigh, as mentioned previously, is the best for specialist vets) but they are great for day to day. Mine have been many times for teeth, Olive is going on Wednesday, and they do certainly burr! My two does were also spayed there. Personally I would rather be registered with a local vet for stuff like this and any dire emergenicies. I know Ashleigh is not too far if I need it.

The rspca round here use Ashleigh vets iirc, and Aidan. I know Eddie has seen him a few times.
But for most of their vet needs we use the companion care one in Pets at home, and I've not found a reason not to trust them, they've been brilliant with Bindi (and Eddie is now recognised in reception! as am I ). (Though there is one of the vets that is/was there I don't like)

Just a bit further out than your required area but I use the Companion care vets at Oldham P@H and they've been great with cheeky's dental probs.
(Plus I informed him last time I was in that we compare them all on here just to keep him on his toes :D )

thanks for the idea.

I rang Companion Care at Stockport PAH yesterday for a price for neutering and they were a resonable price......compared to some of the others anyway!!!!!!!

I used to use Tameside vets in Ashton, on Oldham Road, who were good at the basic stuff, but questionable when it came to things out of the ordinary. There customer service is great, a few times they had stopped open a bit longer for me to get there. I could take multiple bunnies on the same trip, often didn't get charged consulation if treatment was needed.

Briar dawn in Shaw were great with rabbits, very knowledgable with rabbit care and illness, and all vets there have had specialist rabbit training. However, their customer service left a bad taste in my mouth, and my purse. I spoke up after the death of Cherry Blossom, and was quickly asked to leave.

What a nightmare for you....vets tend to be like doctors and get very defensive when you question their practises don't they :(

I don't think I'd consider using them!

The vet that I've used for my other rabbits has been fine, but then I've never had a serious problem and only had male rabbits neutered. Also, they're the upper end of the fee scale. I hadn't realised this until ringing round yesterday for spaying prices.

Oh Definately, I ended up taking charlie to RSPCA, as it was the cheapest in my circumstances. But the differences between vets is huge. Just make sure the prices include pain meds for the next day

there is also a animal hosp in cheadle and they are brill with vets alot of people who come to me for rabbits use them

they were the dearest of all at £119!!!!!!!

I think I'll have to stick with my own vet and hope for a healthy rabbit :(

read around on here about spays, the best thing you can do for your bunny is watch out for signs of a sick or poor recovering bunny. The vet can only do the operation, regardless of where you take your bun the will all do the op in a pretty similar manner.

Personally I would do the following

Try to do an early week spay (if anything goes wrong you don't need added expense of weekend/emergency vets, I am not saying don't seek immediate vet help if something happens though)

Make sure you take a bunny packed lunch, your rabbit should be eating up until the op.

Prepare for when she gets home, she will need somewhere quiet, and warm, as buns can't regulate their temperature after GA.

Make sure you have a stock of her fav foods to entice her to eat, and dip them in warter before feeding her, make sure there is warmish water from a bowl. I don't know what but Autumn refused cold water from a bottle, even though that was her usual method.

I use Marple Vets Surgery, Hibbert Lane. I've had loads and loads of bucks neutered with no problems. I always ask for Yvonne because I know she,s rabbit savvy. They seem to be reasonably priced and the staff are lovely. Give them a ring and ask for costs. 0161 427 3035. Hope this helps.
