porrige oats?

Not as regular feeding for a healthy bun, no, as they cause weight gain. They are good for buns who need to gain weight.

i wasnt thinking about giving it all the time just something to keep him busy every once in a while. would that be okay he is a fairly skinny rabbit and only weights about 2.3kg

Personally, i'd say no. But hey, thats just my opinion.

Maybe once or twice a year. I'm baking some treats/cake for the bunnies. And one of the recipe's is rolled oats.
It's only really good though for underweight rabbits.

I wouldnt give it regularly, but occasionally I think is OK. I make my guys porridge once every few months as a treat, and I know JacksJanes Morse loves his oats :D
For Scooter I actually think they might be good to scatter amongst his hay and hide under things to keep him occupied. Only a few very rarely though

i might try at first in his hay and maybe in like a good couple of months i migfht try him with some actual porrige but not much.

To make my bunny porridge I get a pinch of oats per bun, pour over some boiling water and leave it for a few minutes to 'cook' and cool down to room temperature. Sometimes I mash a tiny bit of banana in it aswell, they go mad for it!
Mine havent had any in a couple of months actually, might make them some tonight. I like to give it on especially cold evenings :)
I give it very rarely though coz my guys are all perfect weights so I dpnt wanna change that

well i thought if i introduced it now it would be easier in the future he may not like it either. hes not exactly over weight and hes not underweight either. i think he should be alright a long as i dont give him much and make it a very rare treat.

I only ever use it as a last resort for poorly bunnies. I always try to use proper rabbit foods to help them gain weight first. Babs is the only bun here who gets daily porridge for breakfast and I think it is saving her life at the moment. But I would never give it to a healthy bunny

What sort of things do you try? I've been increasing Bluebells food as he's so skinny since he's been poorly but although he eats, he appears to get full and will stop once he's ate a reasonable amount. I tried increasing root veg but worried about sugar content. He loves a teaspoon of ella's kitchen but again is this too much sugar?

I use small extra meals through the day and use dwarf/junior pellets, usually at least 3 meals a day. I also increase the amount of root vegetables as the rabbit specialist suggested these are good for weight gain. I also use things like Ella's kitchen baby food which is pure veg/fruit :)

Ok sounds like I'm going in the right direction then, I've already changed him to Junior SS pellets because as fab as A&P is for my other buns clearly its useless for poorly buns.

I work full time but could give him an extra meal first thing before I go.

I give Sue oats and have just started giving a little weetabix too - but she is underweight and poorly. The vet has agreed with me that whatever I can get down her that isn't high in calcium (she only has half a kidney working) is fine. She loves the oats, I am pleased to say. Haven't checked if she has eaten the weetabix yet.

So far I haven't given any of the other buns oats but may occasionally as a treat.

i was about to say could he have shredded wheat was just wondering about that too.

the only reason i was thinking about introducing it to him is because hes never had it and if he gets poorly i would rather he recognized the food and so that he wouldnt get made even more poorly by it. :)
