Has anyone boarded their buns with Whitehouse Kennels & Cattery, Eastertown

Just had a look at the website - seems very dog/cat orientated :? I'm not sure I would consider anything that wasn't a specialist rabbit boarding to be honest.

Yeah, i thought that, but i had a leaflet through from them stating they'd started small animal boarding, and were able to offer 'house rabbits' accomodation.

I've emailed asking to go up there and have a look around anyway, if im not happy, i'll continue my search

Yeah I think it's definitely a case of looking round first. Maybe they haven't updated their website yet because it's a pretty basic website isn't it.

Yeah, it's pretty poor as far as websites go heh.

I'm visiting about 3 or 4 at the weekend, i NEED to find one pronto, as going away on April 10th.

Awww.... take them to my dad in Bridgy! ;) He loves having the bunnies come to visit!

Seriously, I hope you find somewhere, must be a stress. Do you have any friends who could pop in twice a day instead? Or you could ask at your vets if any of the vet nurses want to earn a little cash on the side? Some do pet sitting i've read and found online as well when doing a pet sitter search.
Also for boarding look Bath way - I think there may be some around there :?

I'd love to have pet sitters, but not sure about OH's trust issues with that particular one.

Gimme your dads number

I'll keep searching. We went to one last year, that Amy104 uses, but they hate the idea of house rabbits and had a go at me for not letting them outside every day. I felt quite upset and attacked by them :(

My dad would have them out free ranging in the garden every day and then probably nod off in his chair and forget they were out there :lol:... his house also backs onto field in which we've seen a fox so probably not the best bunny sitter! When we go with the buns he gets made to stand at the gate and not leave his post for a second if I have to nip back inside.... it's very funny! I think he's terrified of being responsible for anything happening! He is good with bunnies though cos we grew up with them and he's a doc

I'm sorry that other place made you feel bad, you shouldn't have to feel bad about house buns... there is nothing wrong with buns being indoors or out, it's personal choice. :D
I really hope you can find somewhere you feel happy with. If they travel ok then do consider further afield for a good boarding place. Good luck x

I'm going to Weymouth. It's not exactly exotic, but its about 1hr45 from here on an average journey.

I'll look around there too

I asked Mum & Dad if i could keep them in the caravan (its a static home from home ) but they said no :(

Hi, IMO search round as much as possible. From previous experience there are good and bad points about using pet sitters and/or kennels/catteries.

I know that a few kennels and catteries are branching out into small animal boarding, a sign of the economic times perhaps. Some appear to be very good, where as others really are not bunny savvy enough to be looking after them. Runs on grass are great but, how do you fully disinfect between boarders? Cross contamination is an issue to worry about. Would the carers know what signs to look for when a bunny falls ill? They are such stoic little creatures. I recently heard of a place nearby that didn't have any covers on the runs and a bunny escaped into another run occupied by a bunny!! I don't know any more than this, even so it is not good.

Pet sitters also can have their good and bad points. Obviously this is all down to trust when they visit your home in your abscence. Bunny wise, visits at least twice a day would ideally be needed, just in case anything started happening. GI stasis, flystrike etc. Property wise, it means that curtains can be opened and closed, bins put out, post moved out of sight. Basically an extra security feature for your home.

It is all down to you but, if in doubt check it out !!! You want to have a stress free holiday..................and your animals too.

Whitehouse have replied to my emails.

They've actually asked me to come and see them, to make sure i'd be happy.

They have specially setup individual rooms for indoor buns, heated and kept seperate from other animals apparently. They've also said if i could bring my dog crate, it would be great for them as its familiar territory and a 'safe place' for them and that they can add heat lamps etc if i requested it, for no extra charge.

I'm off up there on Saturday as one of my places to view.

I'm keeping my eyes/ears open though and still searching :)

Sounds promising Gray!

There are two more closer to my house than the one I use but Tickenham Rabbit Centre are also breeders which may be an issue, The Rabbit Ranch also only looks like 4ft hutches which put me off a bit but I've not used them so they may be worth looking into.

There is also http://boardingbunniesathome.co.uk/qualifications.htm who might be worth a try. Theres no info on accomodation but it says she is qualified in Animal first Aid and also ran a rescue which sounds promising.
