Im very worried

confusedman

Mama Doe
I dont know whether this thread should go in General instead of leaving it here... cause Im not looking for answers about what to do (I think there is no solution :( ) but Im just trying to have some relief by writing it.
Fanta is an adorable mini lop. She is sweet, sociable and.... very dirty!!!!
If you look at her from the front or top is fine but her bottom area is awfully dirty.
I have already spoken to very very very wise people in this forum and I have discussed it with vets as well.
I have tryed changing pellets (trying it again atm)
The vets (six or seven she´s met) say is not illness related.
Obviously I can clean her but she goes bald.
Vets say to clean her but they dont want her to loose her fur so...
where is the limit?
she is permanently dirty.
Today I cleaned her and I could see her pinky skin...
And I can not pull around her "parts"... so... she permanently has dry poo around.
This worries me a lot.
I have tried as well washing her. Its ok for a few hours and then it becames the same and its so cold to wash her every day.
I feel like crying....

what sort of veg is she having? It could be this rather than pellets? Have you tried no pellets? Or even just hay ?

I really feel for you. Our late bunny Molly had the same problem (this was due to her having arthritis in both her back legs. She just couldnt get her head 'down there' to clean. Rich had to constantly be clipping her, it wasnt a job for the faint hearted and i certainly couldnt have done it (she was a total star for him though). Im sorry i dont really have any advice but didnt want to just read and not say anything because i know how upsetting something like this is.

Have you added probiotics to her water? Can you feed her on just hay and water for a while, or will George object too much? Definitely cut out any fresh veggies and fruit. But I am sure you have already dicussed all this.
Is it diarrhea type poo or her normal caecotrophs that get stuck in the fur?

Have you tried a hay only diet ?

What are you feeding her atm ?

I assume that the Vets confirmed that she has no Dental problems ?

ETA- this thread would be useful for you to read

http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/showthread.php?t=255659

She´s not a brilliant hay eater but she hasnt got dental problems.
They are fed hay as much as they want. Two spoons of pellets in the morning. Around 80 grms of vegetables in the evening
George is perfectly white and clean.
I think the problem is she doesnt know how to clean herself.
I have tried to feed only hay and then the vets said she was too bonny and I had to give her the pellets... :(
I have never tried the probiotics int he water
Shes not fat.

If you reduce veg and pellets it will encourage her to eat more hay which is good for the digestive system and should help to sort her out

Maybe try offering different types of hay. My bun is a reluctant hay eater and has done a bit better on sample packs of different hays mixed in with basic supermarket meadow hay.

What veg does she have? could it be a certain type of veg that's giving her problems? If so you could try cutting out different types of veg, one at a time.

The thread Jane posted was my thread about my Twinkle. She has been on hay only for a few months now and is not losing weight. In fact she has put on weight compared to when she first started this hay only diet. She has gone from liquid ceacal poops every day to intermitent good caecal poops with a few looser ones once in a while. She has had a mucky bum for all her life so know a few months of hay only is just the start to getting this stopped forever.

She has never looked better health wise, being on hay only so I would recommend you try this if all other medical problems have been ruled out.

I have tried this only for a few weeks and then the vet told me to go back to pellets because she was so thin.... :(

Was she thin before? Did she lose weight trying this diet or stay the same? I would hope that your vet has been keeping a weight chart?

Have they checked her teeth carefully for any signs of dental disease? How old is your bun?

p.s there is always a solution (just read your first post again) it's all about getting to the bottom of the problem (pardon the pun )
Have you requested an exotic referral?

Her weight was ok before.
The vets weight her everytime she goes there.
They check the teeth as well and they said its ok.
I dont know what a referral is

Another vet that specializes in exotics/small furries. I think it'd be worth your while to check it out. Something doesn't sounds quite right with her, and I think you'd be best off finding out now and saving yourself all the worry  I'm sorry you're going through all this. Keep strong and sending vibes xx

So she didn't lose weight on hay only or she did? Was she overweight before hand? Neither of mine have lost any weight being on a hay only diet.

How old is she?

A referral to an exotic vet would be a 2nd opinion referral (made by your vet at your request) to a vet who specialises in rabbits.
Wheareabouts in the country are you?

Did her tummy/bottom problems improve on hay only and when I say hay only I mean did you literally feed hay and NOTHING else?

She did lose weight on hay only.
As we moved three times she saw a few vets (but all of tem have seen the weight chart from the previous vets) and some of them are supposed to be rabbit wise vets.
She is three and four months.
We live in London.
