  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Just leave it ??? presume she only had 2 ?? i can t hear anything the only way would be to try to stick our hands in .. she has built a burrow around a corner ... do the babies wander out ?? its freezing also .. worried incase there are more and they die .. I have removed the male . he is being castrated on Tuesday .. HELP!!! xxx Dawn p.s rabbits are about 8 months old .. not brother and sister

You do need to check the nest. Make sure that you have no strong smell on your hands, and then stroke her and rub your hands all over her. Get someone to feed her a treat to keep her occupied then have a quick peer in the nest. Check or any more dead bodies and also any placentas.

Give her/them extra hay for bedding if they are outside. Mum will also need extra food as she will be feeding them. She will feed them once a day and leave them alone in the nest. When one of my fosters had babies I carefull checked the nest daily wearing plasic bags/rubber bands round wrists to hold them on. But stroked mum first. Good luck.

You will also need to keep dad away from the babies even after he has been neutered and it will be several weeks before he can go back in with an unspayed female.
