Moulting rabbits

Ermintrude

Young Bun
Hello everyone, I'm new to the forum, which I have found to be full of useful information. we adopted 2 beautiful 18month old does about 6 weeks ago (Misty and Fog - yes, you've guessed it, they're grey). They are outdoor buns, and always have been, and have really thick coats.

My worry is that that they are both moulting big style, it's still only January and if we have another cold spell they're going to need all that fur. Is it normal for them to moult at this time of year? Do their bodies think it's spring because the weather has got slightly milder? Will they cope if we get freezing temperatures again? :(

Just bumping up this thread for you! :D

My buns are also moulting like mad, im sure theyll be ok if you make sure you pop a few suggle safe heat pads in, insulate the hutch well & plenty straw! :D

Theyll be fine just give them extra bedding if it gets cold. At one point pets used to have a summer moult and winter moult but thats all gone to pot now and happens all the time. Ours tend to constantly moult. Certain breeds also moult extra.
We nearly died when winston our rex had huge gaps of fur missing we rushed him to vets to be told rexes moult annually around the time of there birthday.

Oh goodness... my buns are moutling like crazy too! (but, they are house buns!)
Just pop in oodles of hay if you're worried but as they have eachother to snuggle up to, I'm sure they'll be fine :)
Snugglesafes are a great idea :)
Hope you like the forum!!!!
