  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Any ideas on where we should look?

Hi guys http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/images/smilies/wave.gif

Don't post often but we are a bit stumped, hope somebody can help us.

Molly, our dwarf lop (estimated 6-7.5 years old) has lost weight and condition in the last few weeks. The vet thought she could feel something in her bladder and thought about a tumour. She has had an x-ray and an ultrasound of her whole body excluding head all organs were clear apart from a well defined white shadow around her bladder. After using her partner Matt as a control sample she and another vet thinks the shadow must be fat.

She has been on baytril for a couple of weeks and additionally metacam for the last week but has still lost around 10 grams in that time. She has said she will do bloods this time but if that shows nothing up we may just be looking at a very old rabbit. http://forums.rabbitrehome.org.uk/images/smilies/icon_sad.gif

She is eating very well and show no dental symptoms. She was spayed 5 years ago. Any thoughts?

The vet thought she could feel something in her bladder but after the ultrasound now thinks it's just a layer of fat . Sorry I obviously didn't make it clear.

Thanks for the good wishes.

She is eating and pooping as normal we don't think she is drinking any more than usual, but its a bit hard to tell with a bowl.

No bladder sludge detected in the ultrasound. Though they did find some in Matts (the control sample) so at least I know that they can spot it.

I think getting a full blood profile would be the best way forward. Especially to check her Kidney and Liver function xx
