  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Snuffles, Rabbit cannot breathe

Alpha Buck
My sisters rabbit, Blue is 9 years old. Friday she took him to the vets has he started sneezing. The vet gave him an injection of Baytril & Rimady injection. She gave her Baytril to give twice a day at 5ml. Saturday he was worse & called the vet & she gave him some power & to use a pinch twice a day mixed with water.

Today we took him to the emergency vet. I was shock to see him. He cannot breathe, the noise he makes is horrible. His nose is covered with whiteish discharge. He cannot sneeze it out not. My sister asked the vet to change the meds to Septrin & she agreed it would be better for him, but they don't have it in. She also said she could hear the fluid when she examined him.
All the vet could do was give him Metacam.

He is in a bad way & I don't think he will last the night. My sister as an air purifier & puts in something to help him breathe. The other thing is, his temp as dropped. He isn't eating now & she as gave him the emergancy food.

Is there any advice anyone can give to help him at all.
Thanks in advance.

Hi hun,

Please do remind your sister to let Blue know he is loved just incase it is his time.

My bunny with snuffles just passed away and i gave her a kiss and a cuddle before she died. She was at the vets when she finally passed away and i felt terrible about it, but I'm glad i got to say goodbye and that she knew she was loved.

I hope your sisters bunny pulls through i truly do. If there is any doubt he will survive. Just make sure you give him a kiss and a love. That is what truly matters.

Is there any chance he has got pnemonia with fluid on the lungs?

Sending loads of healing vibes - i hope he recovers xxx
