  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

slightly dirty bum

My mum noticed that Honey had a dirty bottom today so took her to our vet for a look. She is still eating and going to the toilet OK but has been prone to stasis in the past (none of that since last April thankfully).

Anyway the vet said she was slightly overweight but that what we were feeding her was fine (mostly fresh herbs but a bit of spring greens and kale and around twice a week she gets a little carrot, brocolli and apple). He advised we should cut down on pellets to help her lose weight but they only get a tiny scoop between them every two days.

So what might have caused this all of a sudden?:? The vet shaved some of the fur off to make sure there was no problem with the skin there. He said that she looked OK and we should keep an eye on her but some rearguard might be a sensible purchase.

Is she moulting? I find Mini gets a slightly sticky bum or leaves sticky poos when she's moulting heavily. Or has she had any sweet treats recently? That also sets my Mini off. I can't give Mini carrot or apple cos that gives her sticky bum so it might be that. Has she had any abx recently?

Mine get problems with sticky poos or excess cecals when its moulting time or if they need a dental. Did he check her teeth too?

I don't think she's been given any different treats recently and she doesn't seem to be moulting even though she always seems to have a face moult line.

I wonder if it's something to do with the fact it's so damp. They sit out in the rain and get their bums and feet quite wet. The vet checked her teeth and said there were no problems with them.

She's never had anything of this nature before.:?

I do find it quite funny that she was given a Brazilian.
