Babies in litter tray

Tiabrac

Alpha Buck
Lola the rabbit I acquired on Tuesday has shocked me by giving birth in her litter tray.

She is housed at the moment in a dog crate in my daughters bedroom. As you would expect after giving birth on newspaper and wood chip it is a bit smelly in there to say the least! So, how can I replace the top layer of paper which is covering the kits without upsetting Lola? :?

May sound like a stupid question but this is VERY new and VERY unexpected. :censored:

It should not be smelly, are you sure the kits are alive ?

If they are then you need to take Lola out of the crate. Then get some bedding she has been on and place it over the kits.

If she has made no attempt to make a nest then thereis a real risk that she wont feed the kits.

How old is Lola ?

They are alive there are 5, 4 pinkies and 1 black. I managed to distract her lift the edge of the paper with a stick to check it was all OK.

She created the nest in the litter tray.

I was told she is a year old but I can't be sure given the other things which the women told me in order for me to take Lola.

ive heard that sometimes rabbits will have their babies in a litter box (its sort of similar to a nest box)
did you rabbit make a nest?
if not you may need to keep a close eye on the rabbits as this may mean she has rejected them.
how many are there?
my rabbit didnt smell at all when she had her kits??

.....
