Neutering and recovery together for two rabbits?

amyp

Young Bun
Can anyone help? I have two adolescent males, one seven months, the other four to five months. They are bonded but as they are both now mature, need to neuter them. Is the younger one old enough? If I get the op done on both on the same day can they recover together to offer support or should I separate?
Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

I would say that the only way to know for sure if they are mature enough is asking your vet. With regards to the recovery im sorry but I dont know, personally I would keep them together but im probally wrong:oops:

At 4/5 months he should be old enough. The testicles need to have descended which usually happens at 3/4 months.

Yes, if they are bonded the keep them together through the whole thing otherwise you can have an issue with them smelling different and falling out.

When I had Faye spayed recently I took Furby to the vet with her and kept them together indoors for the first night after the op and then put them back outside. They weren't separated at all - apart from when Faye actually had the op, obviously - and it was fine. I think being apart from her husbun would have stressed Faye out and it is a recent bond so I didn't want to risk breaking it.

As far as the age goes I agree with checking with your vet. I didn't know how old either Furby or Faye were (both rescues) and took his advice over neutering. With Furby he wanted me to leave it for a while so we could get his strength up (Furby's not the vet's:D) and with Faye we arranged it for once she had settled in with me.

Thank you! The testicles are definitely there now, and they seem v fond of each other so will keep them together post-op.
