  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Tummy troubles

My little guy is currently pooping tiiiiiny poo and didn't poop at all during the night.
He's been like this before a couple of times,a tummy massage and some encouraged exercise always took care of the problem, but what else can you do?
Should i get him to eat?Atm the only thing i can get him to eat are sunflower seeds......

This is the sign of a gut slowing down.

Hydration is super important, as are all the other things you mentioned.

With regards to hydration, I would suggest a bowl, if you are using a bottle, and have two bowls. One with plain water, and one with 'laced' water. i/ would suggest lacing it with maybe an infusion of something rabbit safe (like mint or chamomile) or if you know he has a favourite food then get creative and create some water flavoured with that.

If you're unsure what caused it or he's not being himself (which you seem to say he isn't if he is only eating sunflower seeds- unless he only eats those all the time?) then he needs to see a vet, today, to prevent full on stasis.

Thanks for the answer
This has happened a couple of times before and i haven't got a clue why,and there has never been any changes is food, hay or veggies.
I got him to run around a bit this morning and after that he was much better. He is not hunched up and in pain,it's not that bad,if it was we would be out the door and at the vets office first thing this morning!
The sunflower seeds are his fav treat, that's why i was giving him a few he doesn't get them all the time.:)
