I think they are a good idea. 
The dogs look to be enjoying it. I wouldn't use it on small animals though and some cats may not like it.

I would not bother with one, Dyson make one now.
I use a zoom groom if you groom outdoors it really does not matter about a few stray hairs flying about and the zoom groom is soft and gentle, really good for short hair, and works really well. Its good to get into the habit of grooming every day and checking the animal over with your hands to ensure all is well.
Just realised this is in rabbit chat, I would not really want to use a vac on a rabbit, would they like the sucking feeling? I use my hands mainly to groom the rabbits.
