  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Does anyone do this or do you leave it to the vets only?

Also any particular clippers i should keep available to do this that are safe?

Thanks.

I use electric clippers and blunt ended scissors.

In the summer i trim Lucky's mane as it does get quite long and has been known to flop in his eyes but in the winter it's different (puffier - different type of fur??) so i leave it, knowing he needs it for extra warmth.

He gets really long mutton chops and when i trim this, i just make sure i dont trim whiskers.

I'm lucky he stays still for me to do it - there is a knack though (dont let him see the scissors and he's fine).

my piggy maisie has her bum fur trimmed. she has her very own beard trimmer and accessories for the job!:love:

In the summer we trim/clip Fuzzy's 'frindge'

My mum uses the clippers she uses on my dads hair
But we dont take too much off though :)

If its just a trim then we use scissors.

Shes really good and sits still for you to do anything to her,
