  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Can't say I've ever heard of this but I had conjunctivitis a few months ago and know it is contagious (no towel sharing etc - not that I tend to share towels with my buns). I carried on cleaning them out etc. You've got me wondering now.
ETA My buns were fine.

I think conjunctivitis can be cause my several different things so it would depend on what pathogen is the cause of your infection?
I'm sure it will be ok. Make sure to wash your hands thoroughly before interacting with Pierre and try not to touch your eyes very much.

Conjunctivitis is very contagious, among a specy of same kind mainly if it is due to a virus.

if it is due to a bacteria, it can be contagious to your rabbit yes and the other way round too. You shoud wash your hands before handling your rabbit, and not have him close to your face, as common germs to all species can of course contaminate (staphylococcus, pseudomonas etc etc etc)

When I have a cold, I'm very carefull not to sneeze on my rabbit and project common germs present in the discharge.
