Making a Hutch

Hi could someone please give me a list of what I need and how to make a hutch. I will be making it 6ft long, 2ft high and 2 ft deep:) I am just finding out if it would be cheaper to build a hutch or buy one :) Thanks :D

You can often find guides online for hutch building.

If you are making a hutch for indoors, you could probably get away with hardboard (relatively cheap) and wire mesh, hinges etc. However, if you are going outside, I would use tongue and groove boards and then line the hutch with hardboard.

The basics:

  • 3 x 6mm Plywood 6ft x 2ft (top, back, bottom)
  • 3 x 6mm Plywood 2ft x 2ft (2 ends and 1 door)
  • 20m of 45mm x 45mm sawn timber
  • 4 x hinges
  • 2 x padbolts
  • 5m shed felt
  • 4ft x 2ft galvanised wire mesh with holes no bigger than 1/2" x 1"
  • 100 x 70mm easy drive screws (I recommend B&Q powerdrive)
  • Clout nails for the felt
