  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Positive vibes needed please for my very sick baby bunny in the vets... :-(

Im so worried about my 8 month old Saffie. He is being kept in the vets over Christmas and even my vet is worried about him. Im hoping shes not said this to prepare me for the worst.

They are trying to work out whats wrong with him. He has lost a lot of weight gone from 1.35kg to 1.1kg practically overnight, the xray shows he is full of gas they are trying to work out why.

He is on a drip, having pain relief and gut movement drugs i also gave them a panacure wormer to start him on while he is in there.

I am literally worried sick and so worried he wont pull through. My poor baby...

I lost my last 4 month old this time last year to!

They are spoilt indoor bunnies how can this happen to mine. Its not fair, i love them so much.

Thank you everyone, i will keep you all posted once i hear from the vet tomorrow. I pray he is strong enough to fight his way through this and get better... xx

My vet called me at 9am with some positive news. Saffie has been eating some hay and grass and a few nuggets. He is pooing much better. The drip is going in nicely so im guessing thats a good thing as it must be working!

She said they are going to monitor him all day, if he seems brighter by lunchtime she asked how i wouls feel about nursing him at home as they wont have many staff at the vets over christmas so i may be able to give him more care and watch him more.

So i could have him home to nurse or if he is still to ill he may get transferred to another practice over christmas.

Fingers crossed he can keep fighting and stay strong for his Mummy and Bunny brother...

Thank you for asking how he is...

Merry Christmas everyone! xx
