  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

How old..?

Myxomatosis can be given from 6 weeks and is then given every 6 months for life.

Lapinject VHD Vaccine
can be given from 5 weeks, (although personally I would not vaccinate til 10 weeks) and is then given once a year for life.

The Anivac VHD Vaccine can be given from 10 weeks and is then given once a year for life.

Cylap VHD Vaccine (which I would not touch with a barge pole due to it's propensity for causing nasty side-effects) can be given from 10 weeks and then once a year for life.

Dolly reacted to this, her skin went all necrotic, and she still has the scars to prove it :(

I had Marley done when i got him at 12 weeks and the vet refused to do Dolly untill she was 12 weeks old, it could have been because she was quite small though? :? So i was always led to believe it was 12 weeks at the earliest. But that was when i had the naff vet!

Jane - Do you know which VHD are the best out of the lapinject and the latest one? Im going to have to look into it as shes due in Feb.

The Anivac is supposed to be the best because it isn't in mineral oil which is what causes reactions to bunny and injection giver.

I believe Anivac also comes in single doses unlike Lapinject so if you only have 1 or 2 buns your vets may be more open to using it.

My buns have Lapinject as I have enough buns to use all five doses at a time, they've done really well on it so I'll probably stick with it for now.
