Does anyone split up their bunnies?

Mama Doe
Only when eating.

I am contemplating doing this. Charlee dilly dallies around and takes FOREVER to decide she wants to eat her veggies. Meanwhile Noah practically inhales them so by the time Charlee decides she is ready, there is barely anything left. Charlee also gets distracted way to easily. Whereas Noah will keep nomming, she will go off to inspect what the noise was etc.

So I was thinking about putting a barrier in their cage for feeding time. Charlee would be confined to a 3ftx3ft space which I hope will stop her from getting so distracted and it will give her the chance to eat. She will be right next to Noah and will be able to see and hear him. However I am also worried that she will get upset, won't eat and will just try to get back to Noah - thus not really solving the problem.

Any ideas? Does anyone else have a similar situation?

Yes Blues on a diet for slimming and Honeys on a special diet for fattening up abit more

I seperate Blue so take him out to give him his feed then he can run arounds after. Honey takes ages and gets distracted so I keep her where she knows and is comfortable with.

I have to separate mine as I have the same problem with pellets. I try to get Grimlock to follow me downstairs to have his dinner and bring Samus' up to her. The cage idea is one I have used and it works well as they're still near each other.

Yes, Dolly hasn't quite learnt she needs to eat quicker to avoid her food being pinched! I always sit with them whilst eating so I know they're eating their own food  Dolly has hers in a seperate dish but not too far from the others just to keep the socialisation aspect.

I used to take Oakley aside to give him extra pellets as Cassie ate much faster than him but he started helping himself to extras from sack of pellets I had in the utility room when I fostered the 8 contis. Now I just leave a few extra pellets in a bowl in the utility room and he sneaks in to help himself without Cassie noticing

Is there any way of taking Charlee away for a short period without Noah noticing or distracting him to giving her extras?

I don't actually split them, but I feed Joey (tiny and a slow eater) on the top shelf, and BB (glutton extraordinaire) on the bottom of the shed.

No but I always have to provide two bowls and space them apart. That way they both eat what's in the bowl in front of them.

I tried seperating mine for a while as Peter always seems to get more than Poppy. However, even when he was literally next to her but seperated by bars she wouldn't eat as she would spend her time trying to figure out how to get to him. I have a constant battle of trying to fatten one and keep the other from being over weight. Even when I give them both a treat he ends up getting hers because she spends so long running around with whatever I have given her in her mouth trying to find a safe place to eat it that by the time she settled Peter has finished his and is on a mission to steal hers.

Dolly needed to put some weight back on, so i fed them at seperate ends of the pen. Now they are indoors and i see them more, ive noticed Marley occasionally wont let Dolly feed. Now i feed them with seperate bowls for their pellets and hide some of them in Dollys favourite spot. I dont need to seperate them though.

I separate Rosie & Teddy. He has cronic wet poos & shes dreadfully underweight on 62g which is light even for a Nethie. I feed her porrige in her pet carrier (makes its so easy to get her in for her vet appts) & her evening veggies just outside her & Teddy cage. Teddy eats so fast & only gets one small piece of veg Vet has just confirmed that Rosie has nerve damage to one side of her face which means she can't open her mouth fully & makes chewing difficult. Separating them causes no problems whatsoever :)

I can remember having this problem. Ended up hand feeding to ensure they got an equal share but that was fun, as you can imagine! :D

Yes have separated at feed times to keep one bun on a hay only diet and feed the other a huge plate of veggies.
