Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

Stripe has teeth problems- Any thoughts?

Ambience

Warren Veteran
I noticed stripes front teeth are sticking out abit this morning. It looks like the beginning of teeth problems or malocclusion.

The vets that I've taken him to before have never checked his teeth i don't think, so I'm going to take him in for this on Monday.

I'm feeding loads of hay at the moment, some veggies- spring greens and carrots and herbs and a couple of handfuls of pellets ( i have small hands).

Stripe is a good hay eater so I'm not sure why this all of a sudden. I wouldn't really put it down to pellets as i used to feed several hundred grams a day and they are getting alot less now.

Any thoughts, thanks?

Is Stripe related to your other Dental Rabbits ?

How old is he ?

How long have you had him ?

Does he have any other symptoms eg runny eyes, small poo, episodes of GI stasis ?

Yes he is related, brother to shadow who has malocclusion. He doesn't have any other symptoms at all- just i can see from looking at him - his front teeth don't seem right.

He is eating fine as far as i can tell. I'll keep an eye on him tonight. They seem to be getting through the hay fine- him and shadow. He is about 3.

He may well have Dental problems too then

I'd get him to a Rabbit Savvy Vet ASAP.

Thanks Jane. I'll get him in on monday to the same vets i'm taking shadow too. He is having his insisors removed and they are giving him pain relief, which is a bonus since my last vets were not too great with that.

I'm stuck in the snow at the moment- the car wont start and no taxi's would attempt coming to get me where i am at present. I really hope this snow clears up. I wonder if the vets will come out and pick him up if i pay.
