Advice on separating horny baby bunnies?!

Hi, my bunnies Olly and Honey are brother and sister, they're 13 weeks old and we noticed Olly bothering Honey yesterday for the first time... He wouldn't leave her alone so we separated them. Now Olly is in their cage and Honey is in the playpen next to him, so they can still see each other. Last night they were quite distressed as they've never been apart before, but they seem to have settled down now. We are having to make them take turns coming out for a run, and we've booked Olly in for neutering next week. Do you think they'll be still bonded after being apart for a couple of months? They can still see each other and sniff etc?

You will need to keep them apart until 6-8 weeks after he is neutered, but ideally until she has recovered from her spay too.

You will then need to properly rebond them, which hopefully will go ok.

The vets said that they don't spay females til they're 6 months old, I don't want to keep them apart for that long unless Honey starts to get aggressive... They were so lovely together, hope they stay that way after their ops!

Once he is neutered and recovered you can put them back together id say and then keep an eye on them whilst shes recovering. She could possibly be pregnant already though...

It might actually be a better idea to wait until she's spayed and recovered before you re-bond though. If she became aggressive the male could get hurt and they may not be able to be bonded back afterwards.

This is why it is sensible to wait until after she is spayed. You could do it before (but no sooner than 6-8 weeks after his neuter because he can still make her pregnant) but there is a risk of her fighting him and trying to drive him off her territory when the hormones arrive.

There is also a small risk currently she is pregnant which you also need to be aware of. You need to count 35 days from when you separated them. If she gets to there with no babies then she is not pregnant. If she is then she will be due around 31 days after they mated, but obviously if he has been doing this sneakily then there is no knowing when that may be.

Thanks for the advice everyone ) think I will wait 8 weeks after Olly's op and then see how Honey reacts to him... Hope they are ok...
