  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Bleeding claw

Hi all

Just wanted a quick bit of advice if that's ok
I just took the buns for their check up and jabs and the vet clipped one of Milo's back claws too short and made it bleed :( she put iodine on it and it's stopped bleeding but I'm wondering if I should keep him in the shed today rather than letting him out on the grass (it's a bit muddy with all the rain we've had) He seems ok in himself and is eating, I'm just worried it could get infected if he gets it dirty so soon afterwards? What do you think? Thanks!

Thanks - think I will (although I'm sure he won't appreciate it, lol!). I'd rather he was a bit annoyed than poorly! I've been keeping an eye on it since we got back and it looks ok so I'll just keep watch on it. Once they've stopped bleeding is there a chance it could start again or should it be ok now? Thanks!

It should be ok, it does happen sometimes when the nail is cut back to much and it will bleed, but as long as it's stopped bleeding and you are keeping your eye on him it should be ok. It shouldn't start bleeding again no.
