  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Myxi and VHD vaccinations

beki

Ruby and Reggie (according to the vets when i called them yesterday, even though i have only just last week got Ruby's reminder notice for vaccs) are a few weeks overdue their boosters (due beginning of Nov). Reggie is due VHD and Myxi and Ruby just Myxi. The receptionist said she had to check with the vet whether they would need the whole course again due to being overdue or whether they were OK for just their boosters and then she would call me back. Well she never called me back, so as it is now after 12 i will have to call Monday. Can anyone advise me, perhaps thorough past experience whether it is necessary to have the whole course again of will just boosters be OK? I don't mind paying the extra but i don't want them to be doubly vaccinated if they don't really need it. The receptionist said that cats and dogs have a set period which vaccinations can be overdue for before they have to have the whole course again but she doesn't know if this applies to rabbits.

thanks :)

As far as I know, rabbits have the same jag all the time, not "boosters" like cats and dogs, so it doesn't matter when they get them.

ahh thanks weedug and jane :) i shall call the vets monday and get them booked in anyway. though i probably wont be able to see a vet for about 3 weeks, they never have Saturday appointments and close at 6.30 so i can never go before or after work!
