Brilliant news. It is interesting if it is the acupuncture that is helping.

My OH has had it on his back a few times and thinks its great so no reason why it wouldnt help buns too

I can't think it would be anything else, he has been deteriorating daily for around 10 days despite really high pain relief but he had his first acupuncture on Thursday and today he looks a bit better :)

If we can make sure he is Ok until Fridays appointment we will discuss options then, if not he will go in sooner

Wesley has had another session this morning. The vet was actually pleased that he made good progress the first few days and said it is normal for them to "crash" after a few days. So we will keep going and see what happens. I am just a little concerned about how much weight he is loosing while he is not eating properly :?

Wesley has stayed really bright since his last acupuncture on Friday so he is off for another session today :) We may have to re mortgage the house  but if it works we will continue for as long as needed :D

Bit worried about taking him out in the cold though as it is minus 5 at the moment and he has been in a room with 24 hour heating since saturday as the cold was affecting him so badly :?

Its 20 to 30 minutes. Apparently he sits there good as gold, even the receptionist went for a look and told me how good he was being  Its strange cause normally he is a right wiggler.

Its costing 70 ago but he is so worth it :D

This is wonderful news and a real thumbs up for acupuncture i'm completely amazed at how helpful it is for him, great stuff! :D:D

Liz what is wrong with Wesley exactly? Is he just arthritic or is it more serious? I'm just very interested because I want to be aware of all options when pain relief can no longer manage the pain for Nino.

Hugo's There
03-12-2010, 12:07 PM
No he doesn't have arthritis, he is only 11 months old and was born with a splay leg. X-rays showed he only has half a hip ball and there is other boney growth where there shouldn;t be.

As with all these types of deformities it has become more severe as he has grown and it has to carry more weight. He is now at the stage where his pelvis is twisting and his other back leg is twisting to balance and compensate. This is the end stage for splay leg rabbits so I know the acupuncture is not going to fix him just give him a bit extra. We were really hoping he would make 18 month like our other splay leg buns in the past.

Wesley was first out for breakfast this morning :) makes a change from a few weeks back when I had to tempt him to eat in his bed.

I know acupuncture can have a fantastic affect on arthritis too

ETA Wesley is still on a really high dose of metacam at the moment

Poor Wesley, that is a very disapproving expression. How much is movement limited by the disability?

Hugo's There
04-12-2010, 07:20 PM
He used to be able to binky but doesn't any more. He can still weight bear on it and get around Ok most of the time. But there are times when he puts no weight on it at all. He can go pretty fast when its time to go back to his cage, but generally chooses to be less active than most "normal" bunnies.

Aaawww thank you :)

Wesley is back up for another session already, as the vet is on holiday next week. It seems like he will need weekly sessions from now on, rather than cutting them down as his condition is so severe. But I did find out we are only being charged 40 a session, so that helps :)

Even Steve commented yesterday at how much better he is, he's like the old Wesley we used to know

I thought this deserved another update.

Wesley is simply the most amazing bunny ever

we have managed to reduce his metacam down from 0.4ml x 2 daily to 0.1ml 2 x daily. I am just trying to find the guts to take him off it all together

On top of that he hasn;t even needed any acupuncture for the last couple of weeks :D:D

I know I have said it before but I don't know how else to describe it. It is a complete miracle. He is hoping about with so much energy, and has now reached his 1st birthday :D

Add to that, that he is a very handsome boy which makes me a very lucky bunny mummy :love:

Acupuncture is great, our vet does the first one or two session once a fortnight and then extends it to 4-5 weeks. I was speaking to one lady whose dog took the 4th session before she saw any improvement and she is delighted with her dog now, and Deli has taken til her 4th session before I'd say she was showing a benefit. I'm glad its helping, our vet who does the acupunture suffers from sponylosis himself and has felt the benefits of acupuncture which makes me even more inclined to accept it helps.
