Question for rescues and sanctuaries?

Ambience

Warren Veteran
Are you a private rescue/sanctuary or a public charitible rescue/ sanctuary?

I was just wondering how many rescues and sancturies choose to stay as private rather than be public property- i.e by becoming a charity.

I was thinking about going down the charity route, but there are so many regulations and also i can't keep the rescue name i want as it is similar to another name they already have.

I was wondering if it's worth staying as a private rescue( Just a normal company). Do some people on here not bother registering with hmrc as non profit and just stay as a normal private rescue-i.e soletrader or limited company?

I now have a rescue sanctuary setup but i'm wondering what is the best method for running it. It's currently a private limited company.

Thanks

Most sanctuaries or rescues will be either:

A. Not-for-profit organisations. They are usually charitable but not a charity as such

B. Charity (registered with Charity Commission if turnover of over £5,000...or with Inland Revenue if turnover less than £5,000).

It's rare for a small charity or not-for-profit to be a limited company.

we are charity registered with the charity commision .

it has benefits but also lots of rules and regulations .

you can look up the charity commision website .
