  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Hair Loss Behind Ears

We have noticed recently our female rabbit has a bald patch on the back of her neck where her ears rest. The skin looks fine and the rest of her coat is ok too, does anybody have any ideas

My bunny had this recently and i took him to the vets - they checked for mites but the area wasnt red or inflamed and he came to the conclusion that its a combination of his moult and where he rubs it when he jumps off his 'perch'.

We've stopped him resting there and the hair has grown back. The vet called it 'local trauma' but said that it would grow back if he stopped doing whatever he was doing to cause the hair loss.

Could that be a factor?

hair loss

she has had no vaccinations recently, lives indoors on her own and doesn't appear to be moulting. Everything seems normal, the area is the back of her neck so when she is sitting it's the skin that folds a bit that's bare .

In which case it would be wise to pop her to the vet for a quick skin scrape to check for Cheyletiella fur mites
