  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Ring Worm?

As far as I'm aware yes they can. I know Guineas definately can. They can get it from you, or you from them as its a zoonose so you might want to wear gloves etc as a precaution.

Your vet should be able to give you some antifungal.

They sure can and it's quite a lengthy treatment process as well. As Lisa said, you do need to take precautions to protect yourself. Also, bear in mind ringworm can be passed in spores so utilise spray cleaners in the area.

If you suspect it, the sooner you see the vets and get treatment started, the better x

Hey Laura! Not seen you for a while

Just to add a bit more - Your vet will probably want to do a skin scrape to make certain, and will probably give you Mycozole spray or Malaseb Shampoo. It's best to isolate the bunny too if you can, especially if you have other pets and use seperate cleaning equipment, then just get rid of it. Ringworm can take several weeks to clear up fully tho.

I caught it from a cow once

ETA: Just noticed your in USA so your vet's will probably give you something entirely different to what I said!
