  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Neuturing a rabbit?

He won't spray, he will be less hormonal and you could get him a wifeybun!

I'm in the same position, deciding what to do. Pretty much made up my mind to get him neutered.

The vet said there is one health benefit to getting neutered, not being able to get testicular cancer, but no others really.

He said it is mainly behavioural. It helps with aggression issues, like cage rage and possessive behaviour over food, toys and you! vet said over time rabbits can become jealous and see the female figure as their mate, and won't be happy with any partner you have, getting inbetween you etc. It also helps with litter-box habits and can reduce urine stains on the bum.

Also as already mentioned, it means you can get him a friend.

EDIT: he also said that sooner is better than later, as obviously elderly rabbits have more risk of dying, but also some behaviour can become ingrained if left too long. (like my bunny, because hes 3). I forgot, it should also stop the circling round you making noises behaviour.

Thanks, i am undecided as at moment (obviously this could change) he is calm and already litter trained. But i think we will get him done as there does seem to be alot of plus's to getting him done as he could change as he gets older.

Does anybody have a rabbit that they havnt had neutured?
