  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Ok so I have some of this to treat Nutmeg and Smudge as a precautionary measure and also to treat Mini and Mischa in a week as a backup to their Ivermectin injection.

I'm a little confused though. Vet said to do four sprays, one on back of neck, one on rump and one either side but on the box it says to use one spray per 100g body weight so for Nutmeg that would be 12 sprays and the other three 18 sprays.

Probably best ring your vet to check, you can just say that you wanted to clarify how many sprays to do - he may have been implying spraying in four places rather than just four pumps, so best ring to check :)

I did ring but said four sprays to the nurse too. Maybe that's what he meant. Maybe I misunderstood. She said he may have said that as they've had an injection. When I asked about the other two who aren't showing symptoms she seemed to feel that best to stick to four as it's a precautionary thing rather than treating. However, I did do more on Smudge because he has these dark spots in his fur that I have a sneaky suspicion might be lice and it says on the bottle it treats lice. I have mentioned this to the vet in passing btw at vaccs time but couldn't actually find any. Typical.

I think with the lops I'll give them four sprays in a weeks time and then see if it clears up. If it hasn't by a week after that I'll ring again and try and clarify.
