  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Recovery food

Wise Old Thumper
How often should I feed this? Ive been told to feed her 3 syringes (if Mae will take it) at7pm (done) and 10pm. and I belive she had some at 4pm ish.

Do I feed her throughout the night aswell?!

When I was working and Merlin needed syringe feeding I fed him through the night and first thing in the morning and when I got home from work. Hope she feels better soon.

You really need to be syringe feeding every couple of hours. Dont need to do it through the night but do it as late as possible and then as early as poss the next morning. An average size bunny of 2KG will generally take 10-20mls per feed. You may find that one feed he will take 10 ml but the next he may take 20ml. Usually the first feed will be a big one cos he's not eaten for a while. Syringe feeding is very important if you are to avoid gut hypomotility.
Im a vet nurse so do a lot of syringe feeding. When i took my bunny to a rabbit specialist he told me syringe feeding correctly (as in amount) has a dramatic affect on recovery.
You cant really over-feed cos once the bunny is full he will either stop swollowing or you will note his lack of enthusiasm! Mine usually start off really well and when they've had enough their mouths kinda slow down lol!

I had been going to post the exact question about the Flopsie.

Glad Mae is ok now. Hope we can feed Flops enough to get her through this.
