  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

My bunny Uncle suffers rfom incontinence and needs to be shaved regularly by vet. It was suggested i could do this myself but i am unsure.
Are they very difficult to use? And where would i get some.?
It would greatly benefit Uncle if i could keep his bottom bald. I wouldn't be using them around his anus bits where i imaginge damage could be done:shock:

Have you used clippers on anything else before?

I cut o/hs hair, my dogs etc. But I wouldn't ever try on a bun as their skin is so thin and easily torn.

Saying that, if you do I would imagine you will need to buy a super expensive pair.

Good luck and hopefully someone more experienced may be able to help:)

I haven't used clippers before, but I have used nail scissors for my incontinent buns. You need to be very careful though, and do it gradually over a few days

thanks for your replies. I have never used shears/clippers before, i dont even know the proper name for them:oops: I realise it would be a very difficult thing to do, that is why i am asking for opinions of someone with experience of using them. If i could learn to use them this would help my bunny greatly and save him lengthy triups to vets. The fact he has already been shaved makes me think it would make it easier for me to keep the regrowth away. I am eager to hear more from anyone.
