  • Please Note - Medical Advice

Please keep in mind that posts on this forum are from members of the public sharing personal opinions. It is not a replacement for qualified medical advice from a veterinarian. Many illnesses share similar symptoms but require different treatments. A medical exam is necessary for an accurate diagnosis, without which appropriate treatment cannot be given.

You should always consult your vet before following any suggestions for medication or treatment you have read about. The wrong treatment could make your rabbit worse or mean your vet is unable to give the correct treatment because of drug interactions. Even non prescription drugs can do harm if given inappropriately.

We are very grateful to members who take time to answer other members questions, but please do be clear in your replies that you are sharing personal experience and not giving instructions on what must be done.

Urgent Medical Advice: If you need, or think you might need, urgent medical advice you should contact a vet. If it is out of working hours phone your vet's normal number and there should be an answer phone message with instructions on what to do.

Under weight?

I am worried about my mini-lop Ted. I can feel his spine, Is this normal? I cant feel it in my other 3 :(

He's about 7 months old and usually I feed him an egg cup a day but i've been gradually increasing it since I realised he might be underweight. He also gets hay which he eats a fair amount - about a handful but not as much as Rosie (shes a monster hay eater). As well he gets half a spring green leaf in the morning.

He is just above 2 and a half pounds, could it be a health problem not letting him put weight on? I'm getting him neutered soon so I want to be sure hes healthy before. Im not starving him Im sure!

A protruding spine can be an indication of a problem, as can being underweight. I would suggest a vet check ASAP in case there is a medical reason for being underweight, as opposed to just being active/not getting enough food.

Maybe post and ask if anyone can recommend on in your area (put your location in the tital too).

bunnyrun runs Eastbourne Rabbit Rescue so she should have a good vet- you could ask her for a recommendation.
